The Public Issues Committee seeks to address civic needs and concerns in our area through a wide range of outreach, support and hands on projects. Through our various activities, we strive to make a positive difference and to contribute to a better quality of life and a promising future for the greater Frederick community.
Holiday cards with signatures and notes from club members are sent to active duty service men and women serving overseas. Cards expressing encouragement, thinking of you and get well wishes are provided throughout the year for veterans in the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, WV.
A contribution is made annually to Wreaths Across America for the December nationwide wreath laying event.
Club members participate in wreath laying at Antietam National Battlefield as part of Wreaths Across America.
Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership is supported by the club through contributions of stuffed animals, books, toys, games, children's underwear and socks, hygiene products for caregivers, and an annual monetary donation.
The Frederick County Animal Shelter is supported by the club through various contributions of need items such as pet toys, dog and cat food, towels, medicine containers, gift cards, etc. The club also provides an annual monetary donation.
Police Activities League (PAL), an after school program
for at risk children ages 8 – 18, is supported by the club through the planning and coordination of activities and programs at the PAL recreation center as well as at other venues in Frederick. Recently, two of our members worked with the kids at PAL, giving sewing lessons.
