Public Issues

Supporting Our Heroes

Public Issues seeks out ways and connections to make a lasting impact. We remember and support the brave men and women who currently serve our country. Before the holidays, we prepare and sign cards and notes for mailing to active duty members of the military serving overseas.

We also take time to remember those who have served and to whom we owe so much. Throughout the year, we send cards expressing encouragement, positive thoughts, and get well wishes to patients in the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Each year we make a contribution to Wreaths Across America and specify it for wreaths at nearby Antietam National Battlefield.  Several FWCC members have participated in the wreath laying at Antietam National Battlefield as part of Wreaths Across America in mid-December.

Public Issues also partners with local non-profits serving specific groups of at-risk children and teens. We work closely with the Children of Incarcerated Parents Program, providing needed clothing and hygiene products to the families they serve.  We have forged a close partnership with the Police Activities League (PAL) that serves young people in the community. Activities included PAL kids participating in a grounds maintenance project at the Schifferstadt Museum as, part of the summer volunteer program. We also coordinated a Frederick High girls’ basketball team practice with the PAL kids at the Frederick High basketball court and have other activities in the works.
