Reaching Beyond Our Community

The International Outreach Community Service Program brings awareness to our members of struggles that go beyond our community. With guidance from the GFWC,  we pool our resources and time to reach those in the greatest need. Each year the club features international speakers who help raise cultural awareness.

Activities and Projects

Here are some of the ways we have worked to make a difference:

  • Donated to Heifer International.  This sustainable development model non-profit  works with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. With gifts of livestock and training, Heifer helps families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways.
  • Support for UNICEF, including Trick or Treat for UNICEF, in partnership  with a local school
  • Made dresses for young girls in Haiti. Members sewed  colorful cotton dresses from T-shirts and fabric.
  • Worked with Operation Smile
  • Purchased backpacks full of school supplies for students in Liberia.
  • Supported free trade by shopping and volunteering at SERVV in New Windsor, Maryland

We also reach out after natural disasters to help those affected. Usually we offer support to those we don't know but sometimes it is within our club family. Our members pooled resources to help a sister GFWC organization in Florida, the Bradenton Woman's Club, when they suffered serious losses during Hurricane Irma.
