International Outreach Program
As part of the international General Federated Women’s Club, we must also reach beyond our own community to help make a global impact. With guidance from GFWC, The International Outreach Community Service Program makes members aware of international needs and programs so we can pool our resources and time to reach those in the greatest need.
Each year the club features international speakers who help raise cultural awareness. Newsletter articles keep members informed of new and ongoing programs.
We partner with Good Shepherd Nursery School to hold a Trick or Treat for UNICEF Halloween party. With UNICEF banks provided by our club members, the children collect spare change from family members and enjoy a Halloween costume party. What could be more rewarding than watching little ones in pirate and princess costumes help raise money for other children not so fortunate?
Other recent and ongoing international outreach activities include:
- Donations to Heifer International. This sustainable development model non-profit works with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. With gifts of livestock and training, Heifer helps families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways. For example, we purchase animals that Heifer gives to families in communities around the world. In turn, the family gives the first-born animal baby to another family facing similar needs and the chain keeps growing.
- Work with SERRV
- Support for UNICEF
- Making dresses for young girls in Haiti. Members sewed colorful cotton dresses from T-shirts and fabric.
- Working with Operation Smile
- Purchasing backpacks full of school supplies for students in Liberia
